Publication Ethics

The Algorithms and Intelligence journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct in all stages of the publication process. To ensure that the research we publish is of the highest quality and integrity, we adhere to a set of clear ethical guidelines for authors, reviewers, and editors. These ethical standards are designed to foster transparency, fairness, and accountability in the scholarly publishing process.

1. Ethical Responsibilities of Authors:

  • Originality and Plagiarism:
Authors must ensure that their manuscripts are original and free from plagiarism. Any content from other sources should be properly cited. Self-plagiarism, including reusing previous work without citation, is also strictly prohibited.

  • Data Accuracy:
Authors must ensure that the data presented in their manuscripts is accurate and reliable. Misleading or fraudulent data, whether intentional or accidental, will result in the rejection of the manuscript and may lead to retraction if already published.

  • Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest:
Authors must disclose any financial, personal, or professional conflicts of interest that could influence the research process or outcomes. Conflicts of interest should be clearly stated in the manuscript and acknowledged during the submission process.

  • Human and Animal Rights:
Research involving human participants or animals must comply with ethical standards. Authors must provide proof that the study was conducted in accordance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines. Written informed consent must be obtained from human participants, and ethical approval must be granted by a recognized review board.

  • Authorship and Acknowledgment:
Only those who have contributed significantly to the research should be listed as authors. All individuals who contributed to the research should be acknowledged in the manuscript. Authors must ensure that all co-authors are aware of and agree to the content of the manuscript before submission.

  • Retractions and Corrections:
Authors are responsible for informing the editorial team promptly if they discover errors or inaccuracies in their published work. If necessary, corrections or retractions will be issued.

2. Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers:

  • Confidentiality:
Reviewers must keep all manuscripts and related materials confidential. Manuscripts should not be discussed with others or used for personal gain.

  • Constructive Feedback:
Reviewers are expected to provide constructive, unbiased, and professional feedback that contributes to the quality of the manuscript. Reviewers should assess the work based on its academic merit, validity of the methodology, significance of the findings, and clarity of the writing.

  • Conflict of Interest:
Reviewers should declare any conflicts of interest they may have with the authors or the content of the manuscript. If there is a conflict, the reviewer should recuse themselves from the review process.

  • Timeliness:
Reviewers should complete their reviews within the specified time frame and notify the editorial team if they are unable to meet the deadline. Delays in reviews can hinder the publication process.

3. Ethical Responsibilities of Editors:

  • Fair and Transparent Decision-Making:
Editors are responsible for ensuring a fair, unbiased, and transparent peer review process. They must evaluate manuscripts based on their academic merit, originality, and significance to the field, without regard to the author’s identity, nationality, or institution.

  • Confidentiality:
Editors must handle all manuscripts with confidentiality. Manuscripts should not be shared with anyone other than the relevant reviewers and editorial staff. Editors should not use information from submitted manuscripts for personal gain.

  • Handling Conflicts of Interest:
Editors must be free from conflicts of interest. If an editor has a conflict of interest with a submitted manuscript, they must recuse themselves from the decision-making process. In cases of suspected unethical behavior, the editor must act promptly and in accordance with the journal’s ethical guidelines.

  • Ensuring Publication Ethics:
Editors must ensure that the publication process is conducted ethically. This includes making sure that authors comply with the journal’s policies regarding plagiarism, data accuracy, human/animal rights, and conflicts of interest.

  • Appeals and Complaints:
Editors should provide a fair and transparent process for authors to appeal decisions. If authors feel their manuscript has been unfairly treated or rejected, they should be given an opportunity to appeal the decision. Editors must handle complaints professionally and transparently.

4. Ethical Oversight and Review:

  • Ethical Review Process:
All research published in Algorithms and Intelligence must undergo a robust peer review process that assesses the ethical considerations of the study. Ethical review includes ensuring proper data handling, adherence to ethical standards in human and animal research, and transparency in reporting conflicts of interest.

  • Adherence to Guidelines:
The journal adheres to internationally recognized guidelines and standards for research ethics, such as the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, and International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommendations.

5. Handling Unethical Behavior:

  • Plagiarism and Fabrication:
Any manuscript found to contain plagiarized content, fabricated data, or falsified results will be promptly rejected and may lead to further actions, including retraction of previously published articles and reporting to relevant academic or institutional authorities.

  • Retractions and Corrections:
If an article is found to have been published with significant ethical violations (e.g., plagiarism, falsification of data, unethical research practices), the journal will issue a formal retraction or correction. The article will be marked as retracted in the journal, and the reason for retraction will be stated publicly.

  • Whistleblowing:
The journal encourages the academic community to report any ethical concerns regarding published or submitted work. All whistleblowing complaints will be investigated thoroughly, and appropriate action will be taken.

6. Compliance with Legal and Regulatory Requirements:

  • The journal adheres to all relevant legal and regulatory requirements related to publishing, including copyright law, intellectual property rights, and data protection laws.
