Cyber-Physical Systems in Modern Manufacturing: Security, Reliability, and Efficiency Challenges
Keywords:
Cyber-Physical Systems, Manufacturing Security, Reliability, IIoTAbstract
Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) form the backbone of modern manufacturing, integrating computation, networking, and physical processes. While CPS enable unprecedented levels of automation, flexibility, and efficiency, they also pose critical challenges in terms of security, reliability, and real-time performance. This paper provides a comprehensive examination of these challenges, focusing on threat vectors in Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), fault tolerance in embedded controllers, and tradeoffs between system efficiency and resilience. Through theoretical analysis and simulation-based experiments, we compare anomaly detection methods, redundancy strategies, and secure communication protocols. Graphical data illustrate attack detection rates and latency vs fault-tolerance tradeoffs. Policy and architectural recommendations are offered to guide practitioners and researchers in deploying robust, efficient CPS in manufacturing settings.
