Abstract

The field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) has experienced significant advancements in recent years, primarily driven by developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI's role in Natural Language Understanding (NLU) and Natural Language Generation (NLG) has transformed how machines process, comprehend, and generate human language. NLU focuses on enabling machines to understand the meaning and context of language, while NLG involves generating coherent and contextually relevant text. With the advent of deep learning models like Transformers, particularly GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) and BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers), AI systems have reached unprecedented levels of language comprehension and generation. This paper explores the current state of AI in NLU and NLG, examining the algorithms, models, and applications that have shaped the evolution of language technologies. It also discusses the challenges, ethical concerns, and potential future directions in the intersection of AI and human language.
